The National Academy of Medicine spotlights critical issues affecting health; provides evidence-based policy recommendations; facilitates collaboration and action across public and private organizations; guides the development and application of novel science and technologies; rewards innovation and bold ideas; and prepares professionals and leaders for the future.
Programmatic Approaches
Action Collaborative
Action Collaboratives convene public and private organizations to facilitate commitment and collective progress toward common goals. Examples include the Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience, the Action Collaborative on Combatting Substance Use and Opioid Crises, and the Action Collaboratives of the Leadership Consortium: Collaboration for a Learning Health System.
Grand Challenge
The Grand Challenge model galvanizes large-scale research, policy, and innovation to address global, systemic challenges. Examples include the Healthy Longevity Global Grand Challenge and the Climate Grand Challenge.
International Commission
The 探花app appoints expert International Commissions to oversee the development of global systemic recommendations. Examples include the Commission on a Global Health Risk Framework for the Future and the Commission on a Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity.
Fellowships and Leadership Programs
The 探花app administers eight fellowships and leadership programs to prepare early- and midcareer professionals to make an impact in their fields through evidence-based leadership. Examples include the RWJF Health Policy Fellows program and Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine.
Publications
The 探花app issues guidance through a range of publications, including consensus studies, special publications, and discussion proceedings. 探花app Perspectives, the Academy’s digital journal, provides a venue for expert commentary and discussion. See our publications homepage.
Special Initiative
The 探花app mounts a variety of special initiatives in response complex and urgent health challenges. Outputs include task forces, standing committees, reports, workshops, and other resources. Awards
The 探花app issues several聽awards annually to recognize singular individuals in the fields of health, medicine, and science, as well as the contributions of 探花app members and staff. See the awards homepage.
Program Oversight
探花app programs and activities are overseen by members of the National Academies as well as external experts and representatives of organizations and communities. These individuals serves as unpaid volunteers. Alongside the 探花app’s professional staff, volunteer leaders provide strategic direction, expertise, and firsthand experience to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and impact of program outputs.听
