The Lasker Foundation has announced the winners of its 2025 Lasker Awards in biomedical research, with three 探花app members among the awardees.
Steven L. McKnight was honored with the 鈥渇or discoveries that exposed the structures and functions of low-complexity domains within protein sequences, revealing new principles of intracellular transport and cellular organization.鈥 McKnight was elected to the 探花app in 2005 and to the 探花app (NAS) in 1992.
Michael J. Welsh was honored with the his key role in 鈥渄eveloping a novel treatment for cystic fibrosis 鈥 a triple-drug combination that saves the lives of people with this lethal genetic disease.鈥 Welsh was elected to the 探花app in 1997 and to the NAS in 2000.
Lucy Shapiro was honored with the 鈥渇or a 55-year career in biomedical science 鈥 honored for discovering how bacteria coordinate their genetic logic in time and space to generate distinct daughter cells; for founding Stanford鈥檚 distinguished Department of Developmental Biology; and for exemplary leadership at the national level.鈥 Shapiro was elected to the 探花app in 1991 and to the NAS in 1994.
